Senator Singer’s Daughter, A Terror Victim, Appointed to New Jersey-Israel Commission

To coincide with Israel’s Yom Haatzmaut – Independence Day – Governor Phil Murphy has appointed 76 members to the New Jersey-Israel Commission, the group overseeing the state’s relations with Israel.

One of Governor Murphy’s appointees to the Commission is Lakewood Senator Bob Singer’s daughter, Sarri, who is herself a victim of Palestinian terror.

Sarri was sitting on the Number 14 bus in Jerusalem during a 2003 visit to Israel when a Palestinian terrorist dressed as a charedi detonated his suicide vest, killing 17 innocent civilians. Sarri was injured in the blast, with shrapnel embedded in her shoulder and the force of the explosion puncturing an eardrum.

At the time, a friend told CentralJersey.com that Sarri is a fierce defender of the Jewish state.

“Sarri strongly believes that Israel is the Jewish homeland and she belongs there,” Debbie Bielorym who grew up with Sarri, said. “It’s scary when you’re there; it takes a while to adjust to seeing 18-year-old soldiers with machine guns on their backs. It’s not for me, but Sarri just felt a strong tie to the land. She strongly believes that Israel is the Jewish homeland and she belongs there.”

Sarri now leads Strength to Strength, an organization committed to bringing together victims of terrorism and their families from around the world.

Additionally, Lakewood residents Rabbi Aaron Kotler, CEO of Beth Medrash Govoha, and Ralph Zucker were both reappointed by Governor Murphy to serve on the Commission.

  1. Mazel Tov!
Sarri is a very dedicated orthodox activist who loves Israel. We’re lucky to have her as a representative. Her mother is also very proud of her Jewishness so the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Best wishes.
