Survey Ranks New Jersey Americans’ 48th Least Favorite State | Aaron Neuman

A YouGov survey of Americans asked to choose their favorite among a series of states in head-to-head matchup came up with pretty dismal results for New Jersey, which came in as Americans 48th favorite state. Not good.

Hawaii, with its warm sunny weather and pretty beaches, was ranked Americans’ favorite states, followed by Colorado, Virginia, Nevada, and North Carolina. The least favorite states, in ascending order, are Alabama, Mississippi, New Jersey, Arkansas, and Iowa. The District of Columbia, which is not a state but was included in the survey, came behind everyone else as is in 51st place. The complete list can be seen in the accompanying graphic.

New Jersey has always had a bad rap – considered dirty and ugly by many, as well as having rude residents – as is the only non-southern state considered one of the least favorite. New York somehow came in 8th place, perhaps because of the beautiful scenery in the northern part of the state, but not because of New York City, America’s cesspool, right?

New Jersey’s official Twitter account, @NJGov, chimed in on the ranking, tweeting out a picture of a flag that reads “We don’t like you either.” Touche.

  1. I didn’t move here because I wanted to live in NJ. I moved here because I wanted to live in Lakewood. There are many better states but, no other Lakewood community.

  2. Goose Gossage agrees with this one and would actually put NJ much lower perhaps 50 along with New York and California especially with our crackpot governor Murphy doofus.
