Wildly successful “Chips & Soda” parlor meeting hosted by Moe Rabi started off as a “dare” [VIDEO]

It started off as a dare, but a local parlor meeting for a Kollel ended up becoming more successful than they could have imagined.

When Moe Rabi posted on social media about a parlor meeting he was hosting for Kollel Divrei Eliyahu, one of his friend jokingly asked, “what’s on the menu?”

“What do you mean what’s on the menu?” Moe responded in a social media video, jokingly saying he was on a Kollel budget, and would be serving chips and soda.

“I’ll give a $1,000 if you actually do chips and soda!” came the response.

And then another friend announced he would match that.

Before long, money was pouring in – some donating hundreds, some thousands – daring him to just serve chips and soda.

“Before I knew it, I was getting these crazy pledges,” Moe tells TLS.

So instead of serving the meats and platters he was planning on, chips and soda it was!

Moe then went on a shopping spree, buying every type of chips he could find – to the point someone created a fake Scoop Tweet addressing the chips shortage.

Moe says the event was successful beyond his imagination, reaching more than half his goal even before the event.

  1. This a great move.
I cringe when I go to the parlor meetings overflowing with expensive meat cuts & beef jerky. They spend 1000s of $$ to raise money.
chips & sode is the way to go.
Way to go, MOE – Hopefully someone can bring this trend to our local Simches and other occasions. And SOON !!

  2. Great idea! But where’s the Lakewoods own GOLDEN FLUFF?? Best all time favorite tortilla chips in the world. Plain,BBQ, Enchilada and Hot sauce.

  3. There is no reason for all these extras. Can Mo please start a Bar Mitzvah catering package? How about Sheva Brochos… Dare I say it? A MO-WEDDING? Come to think of it, we have extravagances everywhere. I would love to see Mo featured regularly tearing apart the gashmiyus and leaving us just with what counts…and ps I don’t even know who he is! #GOTEAMMO

    • Actually the smart mosdos find a really dedicated baal habus to host and generally said baal habus will pay for it to no expense to the yeshiva! So stop worrying and cringing and enjoy yourself. And dont forget to drop a check!

  4. Excellent idea! Why are we so into Food?! Look at the glossy and glitzy food, nosh, and meat ads in many heimeshe publications. Out of control! As mentioned this idea of simplicity should extend to all our Simchas and social functions. What’s up with the Thursday night cholent and Kugel being served by Shiurim and all those types of dips and herrings by Shabbos Kiddush!Who has room for the Shabbos Seuda? Let’s go for Pashtus and self control!
