The presumptive Republican nominee to face Governor Murphy in the November gubernatorial election, Jack Ciattarelli, said that Governor Murphy’s announcement on Monday to broadly loosen COVID-19 restrictions in New Jersey is “too little, too late.”
“[The] so-called ‘announcement’ from Governor Murphy is too little, too late. The only science Murphy cares about is political science, made clear by his follow-the-leader reaction to my full and transparent reopening plan announced weeks ago,” Ciattarelli tweeted. “Common sense must prevail here – it is time for Governor Murphy to fully reopen our economy, lift the outdoor mask mandate completely, and commit to getting our kids back in school five full days a week, as even the CDC has called for.”
New Jersey has been one of the slowest states to reduce the number and severity of its coronavirus restrictions, despite the fact that other states such as Florida and Texas have done so without considerable negative effect.
Still, some Republicans were not quite as harsh on Governor Murphy as the GOP candidate for governor.
“This isn’t perfect. Our finally catching up with our surrounding states is later than it had to be, but it is good news for our state’s businesses and residents as the summer season approaches,” said Senator Declan O’Scanlon. “This is what we were hoping to hear with Murphy’s ‘big announcement’ last Monday, but we’re happy and relieved it is finally happening now.”
“This is what the data has suggested we should be preparing to do for a while,” said O’Scanlon. “The spread of the virus has slowed dramatically as more residents have been vaccinated and the weather has warmed up. It is about time to loosen the reins, allow people to get out of the house and enjoy some ‘normalcy,’ and give businesses the chance to serve more customers.
“All along, the Republicans in Trenton have been making the case to lift restrictions faster,” O’Scanlon continued. “New Jersey has lagged almost every other state in the nation – needlessly hurting businesses with no health benefit. It’s about time we matched other states’ actions.”
I’m sorry, did I miss something? I don’t seem to recall an election yet. Why are you referring to This candidate as the presumptive nominee? Have you even looked into whom else might be running? There are other people running, some with far better conservative values than this candidate .
I would suggest you open your eyes and see what’s going on. There’s more to the state than that little place in Ocean County.
You mean the Ocean County in NJ with 800+ Dominion voting machines many by ES&S, all Sequoia on no bid contracts?
