Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Intermittent Power Outages

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Good morning Honarable Mayor,

Firstly, thanks for running the fastest growing township in NJ so smoothly…We often forget the good that goes on daily until something not to our liking happens.

The past 2 days roughly between 5 and 6:30am in the Oak St and Rt 9 vicinity, we had a a power outage for about 5 min. There were no rain/windstorm nor a heatwave which can cause outages. Although it went back on quickly, I think it warrants an explanation from JCP&L.

With shabbos and shavous approaching, it can cause much aggravation.

Thank you for your assistance.

Response from Mayor Coles:

I spoke to a resident of the area today about the intermittent outages. Apparently it has to do with construction in the area & the need for them to make connections. We have already contacted JCP&L to inform them about the importance of not turning off the power even or a few minutes during Shabbos & Shavous.

They understand & have promised to make sure they do not turn off power during this time. We are also making plans to have volunteers available should the power go off so we can assist any affected residents.

Enjoy the holiday & stay safe,

Ray
