Piner Pride: Lakewood Students Win National Award

Piner Pride has swelled in Lakewood Township after the Lakewood Middle School Student Government Association, consisting of approximately 40 students in grades 6-8, have won a national award – the National Student Council Gold Award for the years 2020 and 2021.

The Middle School Student Government Association, which plays many roles, including serving as a liaison to the school officials to convey student concerns, serving as a liaison to the families of Lakewood Middle School children, and performs community services such as food collections for families in need, presentations on the dangers of vaping, etc.

Recipients of the national award now claimed by the Lakewood Middle School Government Association must implement a strong leadership program that meets council goals, act ethically and responsibly, and engage others in leadership, spirit, civic, and service activities.

Lakewood’s Middle School was one of three schools in New Jersey to be awarded the honor.
