BREAKING: New Jersey Task Force 1 Deploying to Assist in Surfside Condo Collapse

Governor Phil Murphy just announced that a team of search-and-rescue personnel will deploy to Surfside, Florida Thursday morning.

“The incredibly brave New Jersey Task Force 1 will deploy to Miami tomorrow morning to assist with rescue and recovery efforts resulting from the Champlain Tower Collapse. New Jersey stands with Florida,” Murphy tweeted.

The announcement comes as rescue teams on the ground in Surfside are desperately searching for any possible survivors in the massive mound of debris left by the collapse of the 13-story condo tower collapse, including a young couple from Lakewood – Benny and Malky Weisz – who were visiting Malky’s father, Chaim Rosenberg, in his condo in the doomed building.

Florida officials say they have recovered 16 deceased individuals so far, and another 147 remain unaccounted for.
