Lakewood among several Shore towns not hosting July 4th fireworks celebrations this year

Lakewood and other Shore towns will not be holding July 4th fireworks celebrations this year, TLS has learned.

Officials in several towns, including Lakewood, say they could not plan events due to the uncertainty of rules surrounding the pandemic.

In another twist, some towns which planned celebrations cancelled their events fearing that large crowds can lead to rioting, similar to the recent incident in Long Branch.

As earlier reported, local State officials have introduced an anti-rioting bill with tough penalties to prevent incidents like the Long Branch one from reoccurring. The incident forced the cancellation of July festivities there too.

Mayor Ray Coles says the Blue Claws will be home and holding a larger-than-usual display, and all are welcome to watch it in honor of the holiday.

  1. If you would have told me that the township is being fiscally responsible, I would have the upmost respect.
    But uncertainty of rules???!!
What does that even mean? Governor Murphy made it very clear what the rules are. Have you been in any store in the State of new Jersey lately? Do you notice the majority of people not wearing masks??
    Gimme a break!
    We’re DONE with being sheeple.

  2. Blueclaws are having them Friday, Saturday & Sunday after the game. You can view them anywhere around the park. But there are some shore towns that are also having them

  3. Your Lakewood fireworks can’t compare to our Jackson fireworks. They are loud enough to knock an 80 year-old in a retirement community out of bed!!

  4. Thanks! 1 less thing is being pay for with my tax money without my permission. If I want to watch a show, I’ll by my own tickets….
