Motorcyclist airlifted to the hospital after accident on Route 70 [PHOTOS – UPDATED]

A motorcyclist was airlifted to the hospital this afternoon after a serious accident on Route 70.

The accident happened at the intersection of Whitesville Road.

Hatzolah and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the man with a serious injury. A medevac transported him to the hospital.

Police are investigating.

UPDATE: On Wednesday June 16, at approximately 11:30 AM, police and EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Whitesville Road and Route 70 for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. John Troncone, 25 of Jackson, was travelling east on Route 70, on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, with a green traffic signal when Robin Smith, 44 year of Berkeley Twp., made a left onto Whitesville Road in front of the motorcycle.

Mr. Smith was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Mr. Troncone’s leg was severed in the accident and he was flown to Jersey Shore Medical University for treatment. Toms River Patrol Officer Bridget Badalis applied two life-saving tourniquets to Mr. Troncone’s leg on scene. Also responding to the scene was Toms River Traffic Safety officers, several patrol officers, Ocean County CSI, Toms River CSO’s, and Hatzolah.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren is investigating the accident. Mr. Smith was cited for Failure to Yield at an Intersection, Reckless Driving, and Unregistered Vehicle.

We would like to thank the several good Samaritans who stopped and rendered aid immediately while awaiting police and first aid arrival.
