More Websites Compromised in Lakewood | Ron Benvenisti

I have been asked to analyze two additional websites that have been penetrated. Both websites were managed by service providers (MSP).

One website was infected with Ransomware, the other with malware. Both infections exposed Private Personal Information (PPI) and other proprietary data. This can lead to serious problems for everyone that uses these systems.

This is the third Lakewood incident that was brought to my attention in less than a week.

After analysis, both sites vulnerabilities were caused by improperly maintained code on the managed service provider’s and their client’s websites which they provide services to.

Make sure that your Service Level Agreement (SLA) with your MSP includes guarantees against intrusions and exfiltration of data and hold them responsible for any breaches.

Again, I am not at liberty to disclose any other information except that as of now it appears that both attacks were coming from foreign locations. This does not mean that they actually were because the servers in those locations may have been hacked to function as relays or bots and have themselves been hijacked.
