  1. A job. Better to work by the sweat of my brow than to depend on freebies. My grandparents did not escape Communism and Nazism for me to be a leech.

  2. What seepuk would someone get for being a loafer and just taking? I dont get the question!! Reb avigdor miller always spoke against taking section 8?hud and being a loafer. its so sad to see so many takers and not wanna be amul the way daas torah always said it should be. take some for assistance? sure !! y not!? ur working or a rebbi… and find it hard make ends meet, so take some help…but Chad Vshjolom to just take and loaf

    • There are very few loafers in Lakewood who just take money and do nothing. And those few are clearly people who were born to do that, they don’t have any skills whatsoever, and they are cognitively unable to take care of themselves.
There are some people who choose poverty as a lifestyle, but they aren’t loafers, they are extremely busy and driven, just not to make money.
They aren’t takers, they are givers, greater than the guy who works and distributes money.

  3. Called in the Talmud: Shomer Kishuim. And Unemplyment pays more then that PLUS you can do Torah at the same time and not steal time from your boss.

  4. Taking unemployment while learning is in itself theft by law. In order to collect unemployment insurance you have to be actively looking for work.
Unemployment comes from the federal government not a rosh yeshiva

    • Check the law again. The current unemployment money has nothing to do with searching for a job. Hardly anyone in this town takes actual welfare, and it is perfectly legal to take food stamps and HUD while studying.

      • That’s was for the covid additional funds. Basic unemployment requires one to be actively searching for gainful employment. The DOL is not a free hand out for someone to put their feet up and relax. Hud also is only a subsidy as is food stamps which are income based.
