A 19-year-old yeshiva bachur, identified as Shmuel Silverberg Z”L, was tragically shot and killed by unknown assailants outside the dorm building of Yeshiva Toras Chaim in Denver at approximately 11:30 pm Tuesday night.
Police and askanim say there had been other shootings in the area a short time prior, and at this time the incident is not believed to have been a targeted attack on the Yeshiva.
Shmuel Z”L grew up in Cleveland, and has family, including grandparents, in Lakewood. Shmuel Z”L also learned at a Yeshiva in Lakewood before heading to Denver, TLS has learned.
Askanim from Lakewood and Brooklyn are currently working to ensure kavod hameis and working with Denver authorities to have the body released for kevurah.
UPDATE: The Levaya will tentatively take place at 11:00 PM tonight at the 7th Street Chapel, 613 Ramsey Avenue, Lakewood.

Terrible story we not know of anymore suffering and pain i always hear comments like we should be able to be a free society and carry guns for our personal safety which I agree problem is N.J. with there ridiculous gun laws will never let very sad that the government rules the ciitizens and dictates how we can’t defend ourselves
I just came back from a visit to Denver. I stopped by the yeshiva this past Sunday night just to look around. I was very impressed. A beautiful campus full of geshmake guys and choshuve rebbeim.
The neighborhood around seemed quite sketchy though.

I’m truly curious why anyone would believe having a gun would’ve stopped this tragedy. It was reportedly a driveby shooting. So if you would have had a gun the best you would’ve been able to do was shoot at the fleeing car. Maybe if you’re a good shot you could’ve hit the back window. Having a gun wouldn’t in way have saved this boy’s life.

Yup that’s what happens when a community that is supposed to be baishanim Rachmanim and gomlei chasadim become Tipsy trump loving Anti immigrant far right second amendment activists. The outcome Is when a family loses a child the first comment is that we should carry guns. Hashem should have mercy.
I echo what others wrote above. A family is in unbelievable pain because their son was gunned down in a drive by shooting. Unfathomable pain and we should all weep with them

Shmuli was The sweetest boy from a very special family. His very devoted parents are role models in all ways. May his parents, grandparents and entire family have a Nechama from the only One who can give it.
I think everyone in Lakewood and beyond, should make it a personal obligation to be at this LEVAYA, WHATEVER TIME IT IS.
This is a tremendous tragedy and a great loos for the family and KLAL YISRAEL.

Of course this was a hate crime although the police have not declared it so! It wasn’t a random shooting, or a drive by. The news report says the two perpetrators walked up to him, as he was walking outside the yeshiva, and shot him. Such nasty people out there to take a young boy’s life without a thought.
