Howell Township Bans Short-Term House Rentals, Pool Rentals

The Howell Township voted to ban short-term house rentals, as well as pool rentals.

The vote on Tuesday would make house rentals under 90 days, and pool rentals illegal and subject to penalty.

Jackson and Toms River recently passed similar ordinances.

  1. Look Y in the world would these Townships ban what’s absolutely legal?
What if I have a legal furnished apartment & I want to rent it out for 10 weeks at a time. Why in the world would that be Illegal?
Please live & let live!! This should be our Democracy!!

  2. Not every short term renter turns a home into a Party Hotel . Less than 10% of short term renters do that. Homeowners (mainly schoolteachers) go to the mountains for all summer ; other people mainly elderly to go to Miami Beach for the winter .
People can use the money and look forward to the money from their short term home rentals. What’s the sin of short term rentals. It’s a free country. It’s against the homeowners constitutional rights. Such laws are illegal.

  3. I wonder why, right? Bottom line is that all these regulations are meant to try to keep the Jews out. However, having lived here for many years already, I realize that it won’t work. The disgusting Anti Semites such as Rise up Ocean County and all their lowlife ilk actually lose one battle after the other. And no one pays attention to those losers at all BECAUSE they are hateful bigots. This will be no different. So don’t lose any sleep over it.

  4. Banning private pool rentals could be a health and safety issue, but a temporary rental should be nobody’s business and it dosn’t have to be publicized.

  5. They try over and over again to keep the Jews out of their communities, but to no avail. Try to make any rules that could even remotely imply that you are trying to keep African Americans or other minorities out of your town and see how far that gets you.

  6. Yes this is great news, they should go after the investors that buy son they can rent the houses, number 1 it kills a niegburhood, when every few weeks there a new guy on the block, new garbage, renters don’t care for a block and number 2 our kids need kids on the block not shabatons for random families every other week, and for those that need the money and they want to rent out their house, go where you can afford, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to your budget why get in to house you can’t afford, and u think u can afford why rent out

    • What investors? Is it that your too lazy to earn a decent buck thus you can’t invest in anything? There’s hardly any investors today anyways as prices are much too high. Investment homes today can be a nightmare, regardless of how high rents are most renters give you a run for the money.
      Compared to 2017:
Hot water heater was $1,000 , $2,600 today
Each central A/C system rebuild was $3,000, $8,000 today
Licensed plumbers service call was $120, $250 today
      Roof shingles Tripled in price
      Etc.
A home doesn’t exist on its own, it constantly needs repairs, replacements and upgrades.

  7. Stop voting for Democrat Party this what we are getting !!! The Democrat are insane!!! Wake up American vote for Republicans this November 9 and you will see I am right or you will be sorry!!!

  8. Democracy was nice while it lasted.
    It is now quite defunct.
The world seems to be imploding.אין לנו על מי להישען אלא על אבינו שבשמים
    Daven for the Geulah!

  9. I don’t believe it’s about keeping jews out. It is about quality of life issues. If you rent a pool out you may have many cars blocking other peoples driveways and mailboxes in a development not designed to handle so many cars every day. In addition house rentals often attract parties again A quality of life issue. When townships zone out houses of worship‘s and schools like Jackson an Toms River did that is discriminating against Jews. Toms River recently lowered the requirement for house of worship to 2 acres however they still require 10 acres for a private school. How is that ever going to happen?

    • We have a winner!

Contrary to popular belief, not everything that Jews don’t like is because of Anti-Semitism. See, eg. speeding tickets, property maintenance regulations and fire safety codes.

  10. Chaim – Thank you for coming to the defense of Howell. This is really a quality of life issue. Zoning restrictions that limit houses of worship or religious schools – that is discrimination. I think one of the reasons many in the larger non-Orthodox community (again not all of us are anti-Semitic!!) may seem to not like the idea of having houses of worship or schools in a residential neighborhood is again about quality of life issues. Cars and buses coming and going all day, the congestion, the noise, etc. This may also be due to cultural differences of how a neighborhood should be used. Please understand that we are all not anti-Semitic!

  11. Stop all the blaming 5,7,10…. dies not matter who it is..This start trouble. If I lived there I would not want it either. Buy a home with a pool if you want. Stop blaming the towns. Thats all you do. Blame. Republician or democrat. No one cares. Join a pool club. Help build one. People need to get along. stop the hate and blaming. Follow the laws and rules for all…No one special or different..Stop the blame ..One world not two

  12. I’m happy about this. How many parties have popped up in neighborhoods? One with 400 people in Howell. One with 1000 people in Jackson.

Pools are a liability if a guest can’t swim or dives in a shallow area. Most people don’t allow bathroom usage. And I won’t even discuss the houses in Lakewood and how guests don’t respect dress codes. So many say anti-Semitic but I really do believe it is quality of life for neighbors that can’t park on their block, and safety for the swimmers.
