Following an extensive search for a location that would meet the ever-growing needs of Lakewood and its surrounding communities, Chai Lifeline NJ/PA relocated to an expansive 15,000 square foot building at 5 Airport Road. The building’s layout and amenities were tailored to the needs of families battling illness, with multiple spacesdevoted to expanding services and programs, as well as to the growing team of Chai Lifeline case managers, social workers, volunteer coordinators and play therapists.
The move follows more than two decades of support for Lakewood’s families facing illness and bereavement from the previous Chai Lifeline offices on Clifton Avenue.
“Chai Lifeline will continue to provide the vital services families in crisis depend on from the new, expansive location, as well as upgrade current services and add new programs that have now become possible thanks to the additional space,” said Rabbi Aharon Koslowitz, Director of Operations and Community services at Chai Lifeline NJ/PA.
The bright and spacious Art Spot, an inviting center where children facing challenges related to illness connect with their Big Sisters and Big Brothers and attend supportive clubs with children who share their difficulties, is a highlight of the new building. A counseling lounge where parents and children meet with experienced therapists one on one for support and guidance, a space for support groups for parents under the guidance of professionals, and a training center for volunteers and Project Chai crisis interventionists were added as well.
“The move was made possible by local balabatim who foresaw the need for expansion,” said Rabbi Boruch Ber Berman, Director of Development of Chai Lifeline NJ/PA. “Observing the growth of our community and its burgeoning needs, they stepped up to ensure that families in our midst have adequatesupport as they navigate their medical journeys.”
As Lakewood and its surrounding communities continue to grow, the new Chai Lifeline location will be an anchor for families facing illness, bereavement and crisis, hosting multiple programs to alleviate their challenges and sending forth countless acts of chesed a day.
