Lakewood Receiving Over Half A Million In Grants for Local Road Upgrades

Lakewood Township will be receiving $525,119 in state grants for the much needed repavement of Forest Avenue, Regent Drive, and Tanglewood Lane.

The grant is part of a larger, $161.25 million in Department of Transportation grants given to municipalities across the state that are intended to “support safety, infrastructure, and quality of life improvements.”

Under the Municipal Aid grant program, each county is apportioned a share of the total funding based on population and the number of local centerline miles. Municipalities compete for portions of their county’s share.

NJDOT provides 75 percent of the grant amount when a town awards a contract and the remaining 25 percent upon completion of the project. Of the $161.25 million, $10 million is allotted for municipalities qualifying for Urban Aid as defined under state law, with the amounts determined by the Department of Community Affairs.

  1. The 2021 Census put the NJ population at 9.2 million and Lakewood at 110k. That is 1.19%.

Using that formula Lakewood should of received $1.91 million out of $161.25.

Even by reducing the $161.25 by $10 Million for Municipalities qualifying for urban aid, Lakewood should of still received $1.79 million.

Can someone explain why the discrepancy ?

    • It is also divided the number of local centerline miles, not just population, and it is divided by county first, of which Ocean comes in 6th in population, no idea what number we come in at centerline mileage.

  2. Now the undocumented are welcomed? When something bad happens nobody wants them here but now when it comes down to money and benefits everyone they’re welcomed. How convenient is that?
