Petirah of Reb Mordechai Moskowitz Z”L, longtime Lakewood Mechanech [VIDEO & AUDIO LEVAYA LIVESTREAMS]

We regret to inform you of the Petirah of Reb Mordechai Moskowitz Z”L, a longtime Lakewood Rebbi.

Reb Mordechai Z”L suffered a massive heart attack, and never recovered.

Reb Mordechai Z”L was a beloved Rebbi in the Lakewood Cheder, who has taught thousands of tinokos shel bais raban over his decades of teaching in the school. He was 67.

Rabbi Moskowitz was also the leader of the Greater Adventures chol hamoed learning program, which draws thousands of boys each Sukkos and Pesach for an hour of learning.

Approximately 15 years ago, Reb Moskowitz was seriously injured in an unprovoked attack with a baseball bat while he was walking to Shul in Lakewood. His attacker was sentenced in 2010 to eight years in prison.

The Levaya is scheduled to take place at 1:30 PM at the Lakewood Cheder.

Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.

  1. Baruch dayan haeemes! The most positive and inspiring rebbe wayy before it was in-style. Truly One of a kind. No wonder there is so much rain scheduled. We are all crying and so is shamayim. Yehi zichro Baruch.

  2. Unbelievable yid, davened with him by reb nosson hirchberg shul my whole life. As well as being a talmid of his in camp achim, he made learning so geshmak.
I don’t think that it was mentioned, but he also started the well known GREATER ADVENTURE chol hamoed learning program in bais faiga,

  3. Rabbi Moskowitz was my sons rebbe this year. We were so much looking forward and excited for him to teach our son. We got to talk and meet him a few times this year already. He’s a star rabbi, there is no one else like him.
A real loss for the chinuch for the children of klal yisroel.

  4. BARUCH DAYAN HA’EMES! R’ Mordechai, please go to the Kisei Hakavod and with the zechusim of the endless amount of Torah and Ahavas Hashem you instilled in thousands of Tinokos Shel Bais Raban, BESEECH THE RIBONO sHEL oLAM TO BRING AN END TO THE GALUS AND BRING MASHIACH!!! It’s time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Rabbi Moskowitz was my son’s Rebbi this year. Our family is going through some challenging times. While speaking with the rebbi before school began, he tells me that if there are days that I can’t do the homework, I should write by the signature “EXCUSE” and my son will be excused. Rabbi Moskowitz gave me, the mother an “excuse”. So sensitive and understanding.

For a few years back in the 90’s he taught Jewish History/Navi in the afternoon as part of the English curriculum at Yeshiva Ohr Chodosh in Lakewood.

One of the most soft spoken people I have ever met. Even teaching us High Schoolers (and not 2nd graders at the Cheder) he had the respect of the entire class. Very down to earth. As a teenager we saw he was a very special person.

Over the years I would hear about him when he unfortunately was attacked, and how he started the greater adventure program.

A big loss for Lakewood. May his Neshama have an aliya.

  7. He used to say, ” we have to cover ground, before ground covers us”.
A line that stayed with me all these years.

Really made me proud to learn and want to do better as a 3rd grader.

  8. A terrible loss for Lakewood. He had a shmiras halashon Shiur at the 630 minyan in the morning. Then he to teach in the Cheder. He went to bais ahron in the afternoon. He then was my chavrusa in Kol shimshon. He ran the greater adventure for all the years. After pesach we had a avos uboneim program Shabbos afternoon in a local shul. Etc. He was mechazek many parents and students. Hashem should watch over us.

  9. He was my Rebbe in Camp Achim many years ago. He was the highlight of my summer-with his prizes, awards, Shabbos morning Navi learning..Baruch Dayan HaEmes

  10. My son had Rabbi Moskowitz last year. What a zechus we had. We took out the special looselief that they create throughout the year this morning when we heard the sad news. Each page is filled with such Yiras Shomayim, Geshmak, Ahavas Yisroel. There was noone like Rabbi Moskowitz This is a HUGE loss for Lakewood and all of Klal Yisroel

  11. My 3rd grade rebbe 31 years ago….still remember the impression he made on us….what a loss to the world of chinuch he was a role model to the newer Rabbeim…
    Yehi zichro Baruch…

I knew Reb Mordechai z”l from the yeshiva days. He was from the sweetest and gentlest human beings whom one could ever hope to meet in life. It was always a pleasure to be in his presence, and to have a conversation with him. He personified the vision of the Baalei Mussar in בין אדם לחברו.
We lost a true תכשיט of a נשמה.
    יהי זכרו ברוך

  13. My sister told me a couple days ago that R Moskowitz R”L had a heart attack. I asked her how she knows him, and she answered because he was my rebbi in Camp Achim in 2010. That’s what an impact he had on his talmidim’s lives. Even the family members of his talmidim remember so many years later!

  14. he was the best rebbe i ever had, such a sweet and special person he was a tremendous tzaddik, he loved and cared for every talmid who can replace him? what a loss for klal yisroel

    • The livestream video ends after Rav Dovid Schutal’s hespeid. There were at least two hespeidim after – from his nephew Reb Dovid Rotberg and from his son-in-law, Reb Rotenberg. I’m not sure why they are not on the livestream.
