BREAKING: Judge Denies Jackson Township’s Motion to Dismiss Discrimination Lawsuit | G. Sonnenfeld

A motion to dismiss a lawsuit first filed against Jackson Township by former Attorney General Gurbir Grewal has been denied.

In April, Grewal filed suit against Jackson Township, alleging that the town and its officials engaged in a litany of illegal, discriminatory practices against Orthodox Jews. The allegations include: enacting zoning laws that restricted yeshivos and outlawed dormitories, discriminatory targeting for surveillance homes of Orthodox Jews suspected of hosting minyanim, discriminatorily interpreting land use laws to inhibit the building of sukkahs, and enacting zoning ordinances that ban the creation of eruvim.

Jackson Township moved several months ago to have the lawsuit dismissed, but has now been denied by Superior Court Judeg Francis Hodgson.

The order denying the motion to dismiss the lawsuit is dated 11/19 and gives Jackson Township 30 days to respond to the allegations made in Grewal’s lawsuit.
