VIDEO: NYPD chases chopper from Brooklyn to Lakewood

Ever got pulled over by a chopper?

Well this pilot did.

As first reported on TLS Status, a pilot landed in a vacant lot in Brooklyn on Thursday, picked up passengers, and then took off for New Jersey.

But the NYPD wasn’t happy about it, and gave chase.

The police aviation unit followed the chopper until it landed at the Lakewood Airport, where they had a talk with the pilot. They left a short time later.

The FAA is reportedly investigating the incident.

Watch the video below of both choppers landing at the Lakewood Airport.

    • The violation was committed in NY. They were clearly following it to identify the aircraft so the pilot can be ticketed/prosecuted.

Though even ignoring that what do you think happens in a car chase when you cross state lines? It is not a magic get out of jail free card

    • Not to make an arrest but no problem to investigate. If evidence or probable cause local cooperation comes into play. In any case, NJSP were notified according to protocol.

  1. Police: “Do you know why we followed you?”
Pilot: “Because I missed a stop sign?”
Police: “Don’t get cutesy wootsy with us! Answer the question!”
Pilot: “Because I was drinking and flying? Well I just knocked off a bottle of vodka in 5 minutes, of course I’m flying; I’m flying really high, right into Cloud 9! I almost had a head-on collision with the Sun!”
Police: “Alright, knock it off, imbecile! If we ever catch you again picking up passengers in an empty lot and flying them to a different location, we’ll lock you up and confiscate your pilot license!”
Pilot: “You’re telling me I need a license to fly a helicopter?!”
NYPD: “Listen to me, lunatic, and beat it before I change my mind. Go! Get out of here!”
Pilot: “Mr. President, are you, and your family comfortable back there?”
President: “We were before takeoff, but not anymore.”

  2. Not true, when chasing a suspect, they can follow him. They don’t stop a chase due to jurisdictions. Its done in vehicular chases all the time. The locals will make the arrests if warranted.

In this instance, it’s strange considering that they can communicate with the pilot via radio. And he could have provided his authorization from JFK that way.

  3. Yuck. I hate when this happens to me.
    Kinda ruins the whole ride.
And they shine that dumb light right into ur chopper.
    Can’t even sleep.
    Mamesh the worst.
