Many have been wondering about the weekend afternoon and evening traffic to New York – despite the fact that it’s not beach season.
Those commuting from Lakewood to Brooklyn or NYC on Sundays found that a trip could take two to even three times the standard travel time.
“It took me nearly three hours from Lakewood to Boro Park,” said a frequent traveler. “We literally sat bumper to bumper, with no accidents being reported on the route.” Other travelers had similar experiences.
The main reason for the heavy delays is reportedly due to the stringent New York City Covid requirements, requiring vaccine passports from patrons visiting restaurants, bars, and other venues – something not currently required in New Jersey.
Tens of thousands who would regularly flock to New York City’s venues on a regular weekend, are now finding New Jersey a friendlier destination – at least for now.
So get used to sitting in New York-bound traffic, at least until New Jersey decides to tighten up.

Today, the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn was closed again, for a good part of the day. That always creates extra traffic!
Something missing here; why would NY restrictions cause NY bound traffic? It should cause NJ bound traffic, or perhaps late NY bound traffic for the return trip.
New Yorkers are weekending in NJ and returning to NY on Sunday.
