Askonim in Florida are urging visitors to pay close attention when ordering food through the Uber Eats app, as multiple eateries listed in their “Kosher” section are in fact Treif.
“Most of the locals are already aware of this, but thousands of visitors coming from abroad are unaware,” said Reb Zalmy Cohen, an Askan in Florida.
Reb Zalmy says he was actually recently invited to join out of town friends, and was shocked to find out they had ordered from a Treif restaurant.
With mid-winter break drawing thousands to the Sunshine State, readers are encouraged to share this message with family and friends and prevent a potential Michshal.

Also everyone should know that I recently was by Starbucks and asked for the regular drink I always get and the man asked me if I keep kosher I said ye why and he said we recently realized that the base we use isn’t kosher and many ppl get it so I decided to ask u if u keep kosher cuz u look it !! So everyone pls be careful in these situations even if u ask for soy milk or whatever…
Why not list here the ones that are treif though?
there is abundant of kosher eateries opening up in Florida. more then any hechsher can handle. make sure you find out from a reputable local which eateries meet your level of kashrus no matter the hechser.
there is not enough mashgiach temidies available. some are actual owners? and some are very questionable in being honest when asked who is the mashgiach and when and how many times a week they come in. if the owner is not honest – then that should be a warning to you.

Some people I have spoken to recently haven’t been aware that most of the Starbucks Referesher Drinks (Strawberry Acai) aren’t kosher.
Duh, since when is uber eats the vaad hakashrus. Oh look here’s a kosher restaurant, um the menu shows pork, yeh but it’s in uber eats kosher section, oh, then it must be kosher, let’s order.
Last June I had a trade show in the Orange County Convention Center. My wife didn’t care about products and equipment she just wanted to go to Florida & a young couple also went with and we went down to Miami for Shabbos.
For 4 people by a Restaurant: Lunch $130, Supper $160, Take Out ready cooked food for Shabbos $600 .
I never go to restaurants here, is it that expensive here also?
New York state BH has its own kosher laws on the books which help in part to prevent mistakes like this. Since Florida has yet to catch up, people probably arent used to it.
When I called “Motek” they said they use kosher products but THEY DO NOT HAVE KOSHER SUPERVISION
I had a similar experience in Brooklyn. A treif restaurant claimed to be kosher. I reported it to UberEats, who did nothing, until I reported it to the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Kosher Enforcement Bureau. Due to NYS law regarding unfounded kosher claims being illegal consumer fraud, they were able to get UberEats to remove the “kosher” claim from the merchant. (That place sells ham, but it is no longer “Kosher” on Uber Eats.)

There are other shailos with using Uber Eats as well. Stark K Had an article about it in Kashrus Kurrents, recently. One issue is that sometimes the driver actually goes into the store to buy the food himself for the customer. The fact that the store shows up as eligible for Uber Eats delivery does not necessarily mean the store has enlisted with them. If so, they may not wrap the food properly with the necessary two seals.
Another issue can be that the driver may mix up orders, and it may not be so apparent that there is a mix up (such as if one receives trefia food that looks similar to what he ordered).
There may be other shailos as well. Order straight from the store – using their own delivery.
