Jewish couple says they were targeted on a Spirit Airlines flight because of their religion [VIDEO]

Submitted: “ANTI SEMITIC ACT AT SPIRIT AIRLINES: We were on flight NK544 from CUN to MCO. During our flight, my husband was eating and drinking food which we bought on the plane and the flight attendant came up to my husband and told him to put on his mask. My husband politely told him that he cannot eat with his mask on and he will put on his mask as soon as he finishes eating. The rude flight attendant stood over him and then went to talk with the other flight attendants on board.

He later came to us and gave my husband a letter about civil disturbance and told us that he will have the police wait for us at the gate as soon as we land.

When we landed, the flight attendant did not let anyone off the plane for 45 minutes until the police came. When law enforcement arrived, my husband and I were let off the plane.

I asked the flight attendant what his name is but he took off his name tag and turned his back to me.

We explained to the officer what happened and people who were on the plane told the officer as well that we did nothing wrong and the officer let us go and told us to file a report against the flight attendant who is obviously unwell and unfit for the job.

After the police let us go, the flight attendant went over to an immigration officer and took my husband’s passport information and still did not want to give us his name.

My husband and I were the only Jewish people on the plane and it is obvious that this flight attendant singled us out because of our religion and faith. This is an anti Semitic act and we will stand up for ourselves and our beliefs and we will take it as far as we have to.”

  1. I don’t doubt the story at all, and the flight attendant clearly was wrong. What I don’t understand is how hard is it to say “sure”, put on the mask, then ask the flight attendant when it would be OK to eat, or if there is a method of eating that he would prefer them do. That would have de-escalated the situation….

    • totally agree!! in these situations its so not worth putting up an argument or even being remotely non compliant. you will always regret it. be smart not right. know what battels to fight. nod your head smile and move on. its not the time to push the agenda of “we will not be pushed around”. please keep this in mind as you all fly to orlando and miami in the coming weeks!! looking forward to that discussion. lol.

  2. firstly, it is possible to fly without eating (in a flight say under four hours) it really is…. second, it is also possible to discretely take small bites under your mask. The problem we have as a community, is that first and foremost we dont see covid as a problem and therefore believe the rules are not for us. we disagree with mask wearing, we are not conditioned to mask wearing in our frum communities, so we are desensitized. If the rule is wear a mask, then wear a mask or drive! end of story. now if this is about a child eating etc. then yes thats a problem, but again, follow the rule, or drive to your destination. and for all of you headed to florida next week, its full of covid… btw!

  3. We just flew Spirit with a bunch of little kids ka”h. The flight staff was exceptionally friendly and courteous. While my husband and I were careful to mask, the crew didn’t bother us at all regarding my 3 year old who was completely unmasked etc. I think the behavior described is particular to specific individuals and not due to “the airline” being antisemitic as suggested.

  4. The tight seats on a plane is no place to eat or drink. People do not just take their masks off for a drink or bite they leave it off. This virus is hurting everyone. The attendent is just burnt out tired and scared. They have to say the same thing 900 times a day. I do not think it was your religion. People need to stop blaming things Religion color of the skin blondes short tall fat skinny…We are all people. No one follows the rules. we all get angry. Work on the other side, its awful..PULL UP YOUR MASK one million times a day…..try doing that all day.Eat before you get on a plane or train or boat or bus.Virus is scaring people………….

    • Excuse me, who are you to say who can or can’t eat on a plane? If the rules say you can eat without a mask then that’s what is allowed. And the flight attendant should keep within the rules as well. Thats their job requirement.

  5. When will the FAA enact a law that requires all fight attendances to wear a body cameras. They’ve already weaponized and deputized them now they need to do what cops are required to do, accountability for everyone all around.
