Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Secret Speed Limit

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to

Dear Mr. Mayor,

Thank you for all you do on behalf of our township.

It is no secret that Williams st. is a great alternative to RT 9 traffic between James and Prospect.

What seems to be a secret is the speed limit.

It’s a 25 mph residential street, but there is poor signage to indicate that. It has become a nightmare to cross the street, especially for children.

Some of my neighbors and I are wondering, would it be possible to place radar speed signs, AKA driver feedback signs to indicate the current speed so cars will slow down?

Maybe add speed bumps?

I know we are all in a rush, but let’s not wait for a tragedy to fix the problem.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

I will ask Traffic and safety to place the Radar board over there and ask them suggestions about locations for additional signage.

Thanks for reaching out.
