Lakewood School District Implements New “Test-to-Stay” Covid-19 Program

The Lakewood School District has implemented a “test-to-stay” program which allows asymptomatic, unvaccinated students who get in close contact with a Covid-19 positive individual to continue in-person academic activities.

Students who are eligible to participate in the “test-to-stay” program are K-12 students whose parents signed a consent form distributed to the schools’ parent bodies, who comply with testing recommendations, and who quarantine when not in school.

Under the program, students who come in close contact with another student who tested positive will be notified by the School Contact Tracer, and upon arrival to school, the close contact student will report directly to the Nurse’s Office.

After receiving a rapid Covid-19 antigen test and testing negative, the student will be allowed to attend in-person instruction but will remain subject to testing every other day until the end of the recommended quarantine timeframe.

If the final test is negative, no further testing will be required. The student will be permitted to resume normal activities the day after completing quarantine; however, the student will continue to be monitored for symptoms through Day 14.

If any student tests positive for COVID-19, the student will immediately be excluded from school for the recommended isolation period from the date of the positive result. The parent/guardian should get a PCR test to confirm the student’s rapid antigen result. The school will then identify the student’s in-school close contacts.

    Why are you doing this?
Governor Murphy’s emergency pandemic powers are over, and covid positive nurses are taking care of patients with the approval of the CDC.
