Lakewood School District investigating Bias Incident

The Lakewood School District is investigating an alleged bias incident that occurred yesterday during a basketball game.

“Two very upset students shared with their Coaches the following,” Attorney Michael Inzelbuch said.

One student was taunted throughout the game that she must be “homeless” because she does not have basketball sneakers, and the other student was tormented by being called a “Black —–,” Inzelbuch said.

“The Lakewood School District does not tolerate such treatment,” Inzelbuch said.

Bias Incident Reports were filed with the NJSIAA and the Barnegat School District.

In addition, Inzelbuch said basketball sneakers are being purchased for the team, as ten students out of 19 do not have proper basketball footwear.
