Jackson Needs Unity | Joseph Sullivan

Now more than ever, the message of inclusion and unity is needed in Jackson township.

Jackson is a vibrant community of many different races, religions, and beliefs that come together as one.  Jackson’s growing Orthodox Jewish community deserves to be included in all aspects of life in Jackson.  From serving on boards, joining local clubs and civic organizations, to being invited and made to feel welcome at town events, our new Orthodox brothers and sisters need to be included.  Jackson is like a big family that only gets better with the input of all its residents.

I was so proud of our Mayor Michael Reina when he appointed two Orthodox community members to the township planning board.  Inspired leadership sees the need to have a wide range of experiences, ages, religions, and beliefs serve on our township boards.  I was fortunate to serve Jackson Township in various capacities through the years, and I know the addition of new points of view only helps to serve the residents of Jackson township that much better.

Compassion and inclusion are necessary for any town to function for its residents.  The silent majority of the residents of Jackson support our Orthodox neighbors when it comes to the needs of their children.  The need for proper transportation, schools located in Jackson, and recreational opportunities. Because Orthodox children, like all the other children of our town, are Jackson’s children.  The needs of all our residents for proper housing and religious facilities must also be taken into account when thinking of future development in Jackson.

Through inclusion and open dialogue, all the residents of Jackson need to be served.  All ideas and needs must be considered.  With our Orthodox neighbors’ inclusion, proper decisions can be made to ensure that development in Jackson serves all its residents.  Proper development that is well thought out and considered will make Jackson township the crown jewel of Ocean County.  At the beginning of Jackson Township’s growing pains, mistakes were made by many, myself included.  I regret those mistakes but have learned from them.  I have foundthe Orthodox community of Jackson to be forgiving and understanding.  Now is the time for us all to work together to keep Jackson great.

  1. Apology accepted!
    I think it’s a beautiful letter.
I truly believe that with unity
Jackson Twp can accomplish a lot !
For years Kackson was trapped in the 80’s , we really could have an economic boom that can benefit everyone. Yes , we hear everyone’s concerns about preserving the beautiful landscape and trees, and not overwhelming the traffic system .
At the same time a lot can be done, that can really help that struggling business owner or those 30 year olds still living in Dad’s basement.

    • Regarding those “30 year olds still living in Dad’s basement”, I’ll have you know that I turned my Dad’s basement into a major business headquarters filled with the most sophisticated water coolers and electric fans.
If it wouldn’t be for my Dad’s basement, I’d be selling lemonade out of my dad’s garage for 10 cents a cup. Instead, I’ve built up a business, with over 50 customers selling subscriptions to magazines from the comfy confines of my dad’s basement, and I get free magazines to boot.
Who says you can’t build a successful, lucrative business from your dad’s basement?! I’m living proof that it can be done, provided your Dad has a basement at home, and he has a working telephone there!

  2. I am bigots like E.H. and crew won’t be happy to see that Joseph wants unity. Thank you, Mr. Sullivan. Shame on Ms. Hannum for your divisive and hateful speech last week.

  3. Hey 30+
I totally wasn’t referring to you.
NJ has a crisis where there’s 30+ single men who cannot afford to leave their dads basement cause th housing is completely unaffordable.
You my friend sound super cool!
    Kudos to you!
