BREAKING: Jackson Township Board of Education Vice President Indicted [UPDATED]

The Jackson Board of Education Vice President has been indicted, officials told TLS.

Ms. Tara Rivera, a current member of the Board of Education, was indicted on charges stemming from an incident in 2020, officials say.

According to court documents obtained by TLS, Rivera was charged with cyber harassment as well as invasion of privacy.

“Tara Rivera on or about March 27, 2020, in or about the Township of Jackson County of Ocean, and within the jurisdiction of this court, did commit the crime of cyber harassment by, while making a communication in an online capacity via any electronic device or through a social networking site and with the purpose to harass,” documents stated.

Rivera began her fifth year on the board in January 2022. She has been a resident of Jackson for more than 25 years.

According to her Board of Education bio, “she earned her Master’s Degree and has a background in Education, Special Education and Psychology. She has extensive experience in advocacy and working as an integral part of a team in decision-making processes. She is committed to working alongside other board members in all aspects to ensure all students reach their maximum potential with the highly qualified staff that support them. Her vision is to have transparency in all areas and to help families and staff work collectively and respectfully.”

A Township official says she will be expected to resign.

However, a source close to Ms. Rivera has told TLS “she has no plans to resign, as this is personal retaliation for other personal issues.”

  1. Exactly. If you had “officials” tell you that she was indicted on charges related to something in 2020 they should be able to tell you what the indictment was for and it should accompany the story.

  2. The Lakewood Scoop is very careful on what they post, if they don’t say what she was indicted for, then there us a good reason.

        • Looks like the story broke publically 7 hours ago. 10 hours after I wrote my comment. TLS broke the news a full day before Yahoo and APP. I must say, I was wrong on this one and good job by TLS.

  3. what exactly is the mission of the jackson board of ed?

because there seem to be something basic which is missing in the quality of education and in the level of social norms in this situation so maybe they need to open up and allow a greater degree of tolerance and less personal discretion to decide what is right for them or wrong for others
