Lakewood-Based Pirchei Shoshanim Becomes a Non Governmental Organization Member of the UN

Pirchei Shoshanim: Congregation Pirchei Shoshanim [CPS] established in 1750 is gratified and truly honored to receive the United Nations- ECOSOC Consultative Status approved in its session held on May 19, 2022.

Pirchei Shoshanim is the largest long distance Rabbinical Seminary in the world. CPS has learning centers in the United States, Israel, Italy, Philippines, and South Africa. The Consultative Status will enable CPS to actively engage with the ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies. This honor will advance the mission of Education, Social Justice and assisting in Humanitarian rights so that underprivileged people around the world can live with dignity and be able to both support and educate their families with dignity, within the nonprofit 501(C)-3 status of CPS.

The UN Charter established ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations. The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the economic, social, and related work of 15 UN specialized agencies, their functional commissions and five regional commissions. ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations system. A number of non-governmental organizations have been granted consultative status to the Council to participate in the work of the United Nations. The UN Charter Article 71 established ECOSOC. ECOSOC is the only UN body with a formal framework for NGO’S (non-governmental organizations) participation at the UN. Worldwide there are very few that have this non-governmental organizational elevated status.

Congregation Pirchei Shoshanim is dedicated to providing Humanitarian resources so that people can live with dignity and that their human rights shall be protected as outlined in the U.S. Constitution and the United Nations 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). CPS MISSION is to develop resources as well as educate and advocate for all human beings who do not have the ability or resources to properly support themselves.

To that end, CPS is working in conjunction with academics to develop curriculums exemplifying diversity and social justice with an emphasis on the symmetry of biblical narrative in conjunction with African American history. CPS is now reaching out to almost two thousand universities and colleges in the United States to integrate these programs of Social Justice into their curriculums. CPS is determined to educate those in higher education about Social Justice and the roles of African Americans in today’s society.

In addition, CPS is building an infrastructure initially in the Philippines that will build a carefully guided program for the indigenous people of that region that will help them develop their tribal lands so that they will not only be able to provide for their families but also help combat the worldwide food shortage and famine that is overtaking the planet. This NGO granted status will enable CPS to be more effective and productive while serving such goals.

The United Nations ECOSOC consultative status granted to the Congregation Pirchei Shoshanim will enable CPS to attend international conferences and events, submit written and oral testimony at the UN, organize side events at UN gatherings, and allow access to all UN sites in the world. This access will give CPS the opportunity to network and provide input and make a difference on the issue of human rights on the world stage.

This status not only benefits Congregation Pirchei Shoshanim but it also benefits the UN as it will help CPS advance the mission of the UN in raising public awareness and the humanitarians rights and needs of the world populations. CPS will play a role in advancing UN Human Rights Council goals as well as it helps CPS contribute vital and essential information to the UN.

As a human rights organization, the UN Consultative Status will advance Congregation Pirchei Shoshanim’ s role to the monitoring and implementation of international agreements. As such, CPS will serve as an early warning agent in the event there is a serious and immediate problem that needs addressing.

The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social, and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.

Congregation Pirchei Shoshanim is as well an authorized endorser under the undersecretary of Defense of U.S Military Chaplains to all branches of the services CPS endorses Chaplains to the U.S. Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines and Coast Guard under the auspices of the Department of Defense. CPS will be offering the United Nations the resources and help of the Chaplains under their endorsement who are quite anxious to provide their help to those in need both in the United States and abroad in their spare time. In addition, CPS has a Rabbinical pool of over 10,000 around the world that are equally anxious to provide the priceless experience to those in need.

The mission of CPS is human dignity; we take all steps needed to advance our mission and our getting the United Nations NGO ECOSOC consultative status will help us greatly in making a difference on a global stage.
