Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
Thank you for all you do for Lakewood and for taking the time to answer all our questions.
The intersection of Monmouth Avenue and Fourth Street has a traffic light but no pedestrian walk/don’t walk signal. It is sometimes very confusing to pedestrians trying to figure out if they can cross the street or not. The actual traffic lights are not easily visible on all four corners of that intersection and it is not easy to tell who has the red light and who has the green light especially during low traffic times. During those times there can be no cars waiting at a red light but there are cars coming down fourth street and Monmouth Avenue at significant speeds. One then has to look up to figure who has the red and who has the green and by the time one looks back down and decides which way to cross, the light is already changing. This is especially dangerous for younger people trying to cross.
Is it possible to add a pedestrian walk/don’t walk signal to this intersection?
Thank you,
A concerned Lakewood resident
Response from Mayor Coles:
This project is in the works. We have asked the county to get this installed under a program we have with them.
I will ask our engineer to follow up and see when they expect the work to be done.
Thanks
Ray
