Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Please give us an honest update

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Mr. Mayor,

This intersection is one that has been asked about repeatedly. It was last on this forum in December 2021 when you told your constituents that it has taken far too long and you requested another update from the county.

It is now almost July. There is more congestion coming because of the development in the area. Please give us an honest update into the work being done. It is a big problem and a devastating accident waiting to happen.

We all know that if someone were to get killed there God forbid, it’d be fixed in a week. Please don’t let it come to that. Please let us know the true status, not just say that you will check with the county.

Thank you

Response from Mayor Coles:

If it was within the township’s power, this would have been done years ago. Unfortunately, it involves both the county (who owns New Hampshire) and the state (due to Chestnut’s proximity to Rt70).

When I checked a month or so ago I was told that all plans had been approved and that it should move forward soon.

I cannot give you a date certain, but I will tell you that this is one of the top 3 issues we raise every time we meet with the county to discuss needed road improvements.

I will follow up again and see if we can get an update on construction plans.

Thanks

Ray

  1. Not sure how to submit a ask the mayor question but I am trying to figure out why there is a horrible smell on cedar bridge by the train tracks and if anything can be done about it?!
It was there last year as well and you can smell it with the window closed!
    Thank you

  2. That smell has been around that area for decades. I remember smelling it on New Hampshire and on the Lakewood side of rt. 88 even back in the mid-90s we figured it was a combination of the recycling center mulch and the lakes at Shenandoah park.

  3. Approximately 18 years ago I started my job in schi school. Which was in Todd Plaza at the time.At the time I asked a colleague what would be a good route to use. She said I should take Pine and make a left on route 9. She said it’s a difficult left turn but they are going to be installing a turning light. It’s so many years later and the turning light is still not installed
